Camp Cornplanter Spring planting 2003

This year's spring planting project was done at Camp Cornplanter, and was one project of many that we have held at this location. It was a cold yet sunny morning, but by the time we started eating our fabulous lunch, everybody was standing around in T-shirts.
We have planting projects spread throughout this area.
This years project was the planting and fencing of 23 Crabapple and 15 Arrow Wood Vibernum trees. Volunteers for this project were Rob Abplanalp, Bill Barr, Bob Boyer, Merle Caldwell, Wally Dyne, Ed Hanes, Jason Malone, Scott Reitz, Rian Rich, and Guy Waldman.
Scott is the biologist with the ANF that coordinates all of our planting and pruning projects. Thank you Scott.

These trees were planted just east of the old dining hall, and the base area of the new trees was covered with Vispore to reduce competition with established grasses and weeds. Each tree was fertilized and the trunks were wrapped to protect against small mammals. The 23 Crabapple were individually fenced, and the 15 Vibernum were "cribbed". Cribbing is merely constructing one fenced in area to protect all the plants inside it. We ran short on fence-posts and fencing, but the remainder of the trees have since been protected.

Now on to some pictures.
